This is also called Kumihimo, a Japanese weaving art. I love this little wheel, it's easy to use, my kids like it, and you can generate your own patterns online at a personal craft web page here: craftdesignonline dot com/kumihimo/I added beads to the strings and it worked out fine. It's great for experimenting, and somewhat educational because if you change the pattern at all, you can see how your changes affected the bracelet in the end. This is a great thinking exercise. My 10 yo likes it and my 7 yo likes it as well. I love it, because it fits easily in my purse, is very light, and I can whip it out and give it to a kid to work on or work on it myself instead of being bored. Easy to start & stop. Easy to customize. Much, much better than the flat weaving or clipboard type tools.Very inexpensive.I already have one of these bracelet wheels and I use it so much the designs are starting to come off. As a result I decided to purchase another, but only wanted the wheel and not a 'whole kit.' This product from Alex Toys fit my needs perfectly! It is just the wheel in a little package, and it came exactly as pictured (no defects or different pattern).I am VERY happy with this purchase, it is a great price and just what I needed.An additional wheel for more creative friendship bracelets using colorful floss to make bracelets to wear or share with friends. Placement of floss on wheel creates the design..easy to follow instructions and a plus for the friendship bracelet creator.This is great, but can be a little confusing, it could take days to make 1 bracelet. I suggest you also buy:Cotton Craft Thread 36 Skeins-Variegatedto have more choices in colors.My daughter loves the friendship wheel. Although its overpriced for what you get. I do recommend it to other children.1 silly bracelet to make and you can't even pick color. the instructions were horrible...i would send it back, but not worth the aggravation.There are larger Alex Friendship Bracelet kits that have more skeins of thread, more looms, and decorative beads, but this small set is enough to be a small gift for a Christmas stocking (or one of the rewards kids can earn for doing chores or whatever). It comes with a threaded foam circle that has "petals" or indentations to hold the thread in various positions around the circle. My daughter started with this around age ten or so and has made many bracelets, for herself and friends. She is now moving up to a larger kit because she wants to try the square loom used to make flat bracelets. Highly recommended!We got this for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas. My husband picked it up and hasn't put it down. Everyone has a bracelet now.
