The Pendergast books are fascinating and complex. It has been awhile since I read one and this one held my interest from the beginning. I appreciated the interchange of western and eastern spirituality. It is a story of spirituality, not of religion. I was intrigued by the technology built into the largest ocean going passenger ship. It was clearly explained what the ship was capable of. I was dismayed by the misogyny that underpinned many of the personnel decisions.The novel started fairly slowly and near the end ratcheted up to breakneck speed. I look forward to reading the next one in this series.
